Campaign Contribution Limits

The Campaign Finance Act, specifically O.C.G.A. § 21-5-41(k), directs the Campaign Finance Commission to raise or lower the maximum contribution limits set forth in the O.C.G.A. § 21-5-41 by $100 increments based on inflation or deflation as determined by the Consumer Price Index published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the United States Department of Labor.  Such limitations shall apply until they are subsequentially reviewed by the Commission.

On December 2, 2010, the Commission approved an increase in the maximum contribution limits as follows:

  • Primary Election (state-wide elected office) = Six thousand three hundred dollars ($6,300)
  • Primary run-off election (state-wide elected office) = Three thousand seven hundred dollars ($3,700)
  • General Election (state-wide elected office) = Six thousand three hundred dollars ($6,300)
  • General run-off election (state-wide elected office) = Three thousand seven hundred dollars ($3,700)

(Statewide candidates include: Governor, Attorney General, Commissioner of Agriculture, Commissioner of Insurance, Commissioner of Labor, Lieutenant Governor, Public Service Commission, Secretary of State, State School Superintendent)

  • Primary election (General Assembly, local elected office) = Two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500)
  • Primary run-off election (General Assembly, local elected office) = One thousand three hundred dollars ($1,300)
  • General election (General Assembly, local elected office) = Two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500)
  • General run-off election (General Assembly, local elected office) = One thousand three hundred dollars ($1,300)

Rule 189-6-.07(2) The aggregate of monetary and in-kind contributions from the same contributor shall not exceed the maximum contribution limits authorized by the Act.
